Hello and Welcome to In The Doll World!

Georgette Taylor and I, Tammy (teej) Fisher, are ELATED to launch our podcast In the Doll World!

In the Doll World is the realization of a dream that has been years in the making! Georgette and I have spoken about how fun it would be to showcase our doll friends, their creations, and their journeys. We decided to make our dream a reality!

VISION
  • Original Vision: To connect doll makers and artists with their fans in a way that is fun and educational.
  • New Vision: To share the passion and entrepreneurial skills of doll makers/artists in a way that may help—not only other doll professionals—but, also inspire entrepreneurs, small business owners, or persons looking to manufacture and sell products as well as spotlight other creatives within the doll community in a way that empowers, educates, entertains, and promotes diversity.

HISTORY

GEORGETTE’S “CRAZY” IDEA! About 3 years ago, Georgette Taylor had this idea to share a way others could get a glimpse into the doll world and showcase the creatives and artists who are also entrepreneurs.

Georgette: As an entrepreneur myself and doll inventor, my friend and business partner Audrey Bell-Kearney and I, co-founded and invented Big Beautiful Dolls (BBD) line.  I found myself a few years ago with this idea for a show called In The Doll World, and I thought how cool would it be to showcase the talent and the work of this vibrant and eclectic community that had continued to be so supportive of me and our dolls—even to this day. But, at that point, I was not sure how to do it.

So about 6 years ago, Audrey and I, co-created a television network called HERTUBE-TV.  About 3 years later, Georgette thought again about In The Doll World and knew this medium would be perfect for the new doll show.

I also had to think about a wonderful host for the show. I had become really great friends with, Tammy of CuriositeeJ  who was establishing her store. I reached out to Tammy to ask if she would host this crazy idea of a tv show about the doll community.

Tammy:  I was so new to the doll community that I couldn’t envision the show. Georgette described a talk show about dolls and doll creators. My job would be to locate and interview the artists. The only thing was, I knew almost nothing about dolls or doll artists. This show, that in her head was going to be fun and enlightening, sounded like a nightmare to me! I had no idea about where to even begin. Though I thought her idea could be fun—for the right person—I was sure I wasn’t the right person.

GEORGETTE RETURNS! Fast forward to two years ago. Georgette brought up the idea again. By this time, I knew lots about dolls, doll history, doll types, and I had even made friends with a good number of doll creators, artists, and collectors. Now, I was able to imagine what the show would be: it was no longer Georgette’s “crazy” idea; nor, was it my nightmare. It was something we both thought would be fascinating, fun, and entertaining.

THE PODCAST! Our next step was to determine the best format. Initially, we wanted to do video to have it be on the HERTUBE-TV network, but we quickly learned people had very different levels of technical proficiency and different types of technology. So, we thought about it and realized Podcasting was becoming a huge medium and it allowed us to just to use audio, it also gave us a way to connect with people differently because they could listen to us in their cars, while walking, jogging, cooking, etc., and so In The Doll World became a Podcast.

WEEK ONE! A week after launching the first shows, we realized, our mission had expanded. Through our interviews, we were learning a great deal about how the doll creators/artists, who were often self-employed; running their own business; working with manufacturers; all while  balancing their time between their professional and personal lives.

Though we are unsure what our final mission statement for the show will be, we are enjoying our journey and we hope you are enjoying it as well!
